From Cities to Nature
On June 6th, we hosted the Undivided Building Impact Event: From Cities to Nature in Hong Kong. We were joined by a great panel of speakers: Markus Spiegel from Gentian, Patrick Ho from Swire Properties, Eric Schuldenfrei from ESKYIU, Bruce Chong from Arup, and Christine Loh from HKUST to discuss reimagining urban development in a way that effectively integrates nature. The discussions were fruitful, with participants highlighting the importance of collaboration between government entities, corporations, and other key stakeholders in implementing such ideas.
One of the key themes that emerged was the need to move beyond simply incorporating nature into urban areas, and instead focus on truly integrating it in a way that creates seamless, mutually beneficial relationships. Speakers emphasized the environmental, social, and economic benefits of such an approach, from improved air quality and biodiversity to enhanced community wellbeing and property values. However, the challenges of achieving this vision were also acknowledged, including regulatory barriers, technical complexities, and the need to align diverse interests. Overall, the event underscored the tremendous potential, as well as the critical importance, of rethinking the way we develop our cities to create a more sustainable and liveable future.
We look forward to continuing the momentum generated by this event and working with our partners to explore innovative ways of bringing nature and urban development together in harmony.
